Introduction

Welcome to the Department of Planning's major projects tracking system.

This tracking system allows you to:

  • find out information on major projects which are before the Department
  • make submissions on projects which are on exhibition
  • find out about determinations on projects by the Minister for Planning or the Department.

Development may be declared a 'major project' to be assessed under Part 3A (Major Infrastructure and Other Projects) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. These projects, which are ordinarily assessed by the Department, require the Minister for Planning's approval because they are of a particular type or are within a State significant site or other specified site. Major projects are identified either in:

As well as Part 3A projects, the active tracking system also includes current development applications (lodged on or after 1 January 2009) that require the approval of the Minister for Planning under Part 4 (Development Assessment) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The projects listed in the register are at various stages of assessment. For instance, some are at an early stage of assessment and only preliminary documents have been lodged. The publishing of these documents allows community members to be aware of a proposal at this early stage before it is formally placed on exhibition for public comment.

The Department recommends use of the search function at the bottom left-hand corner of the page, to find out information about specific projects.
